OLD SANTA FE CASITA MEETS MODERN DAY FARM

Starting with a clean palette was the first item on the renovation list for this 1950’s unloved casita. Painting the entire casita in a bright white cleaned up the space and selecting a light off white plank tile floor keeps an open and airy feeling. When I approached the fireplace design I asked Karene Earle Browne for her creative play of the regional elements. Then the furniture layers came in with Designer woven shades provided by Hartmann&Forbes. Adding regional blankets and rustic wood coffee table offer a reminder of the Southwest. Repurposing vintage mid century chairs with a pattern play and a cozy sleeper style sofa in this small space worked in terms of a funky vintage farmhouse with a lux feel. The last layer of fresh plants always offer a sense of living with the outdoor elements inside your home.

Design style can take form from inspiration that might creatively be unexpected and in this case of this old ranch home casita the design inspiration came from a local talented Chef with a flair for farm-house fresh. This project was created for ShowHouse Santa Fe (a non profit organization that raises net proceeds for local school programs over the last 6 years). I was inspired by the talents of Chef Sean Sinclair with his roots in Farm to Table style cuisine and hispassion for handcrafted pottery, simplicity in design paired with robust and sophisticated food flavors.

Lighting always enhances a sense of style and the wall sconces were hung for their vintage and industrial farm style. For the kitchen a take on modern industrial help lux up the space and provide a feeling of fresh simplicity. Cindy Peck a local artist created decoupage panels to create an unusual back drop for the bed wall that is both artistic and edgy.
