READY FOR A REFRESH....HERE ARE 5 DESIGN TIPS FOR 2024!

Jennifer Ashton December 21, 2023

Here we go, 2024 is a perfect time to refresh and start the year by diving into the areas of your home that need new color enhancements, nature accents, and metallic details to add some elegant spark!

Nestled in the heart of Santa Fe, New Mexico, there's a rhythm to the changing seasons. As the vast skies turn to deeper hues, our homes become a sanctuary against the crisp air and snowy winter. As an interior designer in this enchanting city, I've always believed in harmonizing and refreshing our living spaces inspired by the world outside. Here's how to freshen up your home for all seasons, no matter the weather, with tips that will last the test of time and get you off to a great start for 2024!

1. Start with the Art: A specific work of art can inspire a room with everything you need to consider related to color palettes, fabrics, furniture, and accents. Research for inspiration can start with fabulous art books or visiting local galleries. In my region, Santa Fe has plenty to offer, from Canyon Road to the New Mexico Museum of Art Vladem Contemporary. Related to art inspiration in this case the interior design vignette below emerged from this fabulous tabletop art book titled, Warhol and the West capturing the spirit of the Wild West as created by iconic modern artist Andy Warhol.

2. Mix in Southwest Nature: The seasons of Santa Fe are not just about our magnificent desert terrain or even the colorful sunsets, but they are gorgeous inspirations for choosing decor in your spaces. In this case, a deep, rich amber-toned velvet sectional, earthy geometric pillows, and woven basketry were designed into the space as a rich and natural balance against the green pinon trees and blue sky backdrop acting as the essential elements mixing harmony with nature.

3. Dream in Green: Embrace the color green! Various pattern textiles in greens from Sage to Hunter will work naturally for pillows, shades, and furniture fabrics by adding a soothing mood to your spaces, whether a cozy den, guest bedroom, or classic elegance for a living room. Designer fabrics in gorgeous greens add timeless beauty in patterns from delicate embroidered stripe motifs to natural leaf designs and modern geometric.

4. Add Earthy Elements - As nature acts as the perfect backdrop, this living space captures earthy elements from the outdoors that are energized with a global mix of textiles. Mixing warm metals, leathers, and unique shapes with natural wood touches adds a bit of luxury style for a worldly sophistication.

5. Embellish with Gold Detail: Harmonizing gold leaf throughout a space can create a magical backdrop of chic elegance. Low-lying furniture and a few curated pieces balance nicely with the gold detailing. Consider the philosophy of 'less is more' when it comes to the furniture pieces when integrating strong gold accents, and Whala! you have an artful sitting room.

Keep it fresh with every changing season within your home, whether starting with art, adding a new color infusion, mixing natural elements, or choosing regional accents. The design details matter; diving into inspirational tips to transform your interiors will add fresh touches to the world around you.
